Message I want to swap in the 4.10 rear end now that I am back in the US for the additional pep down in the lower speeds, but do not like how that is going to mean higher rpms when freeway cruising. The 4.10 gear wasn't even a remotely considerable option in Germany, I did most cruising up around 90-100 mph and the rpms were quite high, IIRC up around 4k. I had my doubts the first time out if the cruise would even set that high.

Why do I care about rpms? Well for one thing, fuel consumption, I understand that it is not just about rpms but also engine load, but cruising at high rpms doesnt help. Another thing is interior cabin volume. Lower rpms at cruising speeds would help out reducing interior noise levels from exhaust to make higher performance exhausts more tolerable in non-performance-oriented situations like road trips. Might help wean me off the JWT Genies.

Some people think the Z33 6-spd is the solution, but it isnt. It doesn't have two gears above the 1:1 ratio gear (which is 4th in the Z32). It has 5th gear as the 1:1 ratio gear which makes them basically the same as what we have except with an extra gear BELOW 4th. IIRC the Corvette's 6-spd utilizes two gears above 4th (1:1) and this surely contributes to its great highway mileage and liveability as a GT.
